Vancouver business licensing bylaw
Vancouver writes this as a bylaw. The same rule is also searched as by-law and as "by law".

This is a guide, not legal advice and not the bylaw. Bylaw Insider does not re-host bylaw text. Amounts, deadlines, and wording are on the ticket and on the city site. We last checked the official links on 15 October 2026.
Vancouver's Licence By-law (No. 4450) sets municipal business licensing. The city site lists categories, fees, and the inspections that can hold an application. A provincial security or investigator licence is issued by British Columbia, not by the licence clerk at City Hall.
Before this directory marks any Vancouver firm as verified, both numbers have to be checked with the offices that issued them.
Use the bylaw finder and the city's business-licence pages to apply. We do not submit applications.

Common questions
Is a city licence the same as a provincial security licence?
No. Vancouver's Licence By-law (No. 4450) is the municipal document. British Columbia licenses security businesses separately. Check both.
