City guide
Ottawa noise by-law
Ottawa writes this as a by-law. The same rule is also searched as bylaw and as "by law".

This is a guide, not legal advice and not the bylaw. Bylaw Insider does not re-host bylaw text. Amounts, deadlines, and wording are on the ticket and on the city site. We last checked the official links on 15 October 2026.
Ottawa's noise by-law is the rule for construction hours, amplified music, and other specified sounds. It is not a general promise of quiet. Exemptions for events are applied for, not assumed. The laws index is where the consolidated by-law and the exemption form live, in English and French.
Report noise that you believe is outside the by-law through 3-1-1, with the address and the time. If you run a site, keep the exemption and the daily log together. Security staff at a venue do not rewrite the hours by asking the crowd to keep it down; the by-law does.
A French guide for Ottawa is not in this launch. The city's French by-law page is already the official text.

Common questions
Are construction hours in the noise by-law?
Yes. Ottawa's noise by-law sets hours for construction and for amplified sound, with a permit path for exceptions. Read the current by-law on the laws index.
