This is a guide, not legal advice and not the bylaw. Bylaw Insider does not re-host bylaw text. Amounts, deadlines, and wording are on the ticket and on the city site. We last checked the official links on 15 October 2026.
Ottawa publishes its bylaws from a single laws index, in English and French. Parking rules are in the traffic and parking by-law and in the schedules that name streets, paid periods, and residential permit zones. On-street pay parking, winter overnight restrictions, and private-property towing are different files. A pay-by-phone session does not authorize you to sit in a no-stopping zone.
The city enforces street parking with its own by-law staff. A ticket tells you how to pay the City of Ottawa. Private lots are enforced by the owner or a contractor, under provincial towing rules and the signs on the lot. If a vehicle was removed from a private lot, the receipt and the signs matter more than the street by-law.
Ottawa's laws page is the text. This summary is the map. The French text on ottawa.ca controls equally; we have not published a French Ottawa guide yet.
