City guide
Toronto paying or disputing a ticket by-law
Toronto writes this as a by-law. The same rule is also searched as bylaw and as "by law".

This is a guide, not legal advice and not the bylaw. Bylaw Insider does not re-host bylaw text. Amounts, deadlines, and wording are on the ticket and on the city site. We last checked the official links on 15 October 2026.
Toronto separates parking penalties from many other provincial offences, and the paper you received says which process you are in. Parking tickets are paid and reviewed through the city's tickets and fines service. Other bylaw charges may be provincial offences, with a court office named on the document.
The screening step, where it exists, is a chance to explain a sign, a permit, or a plate error before a hearing. It is not a conversation with the officer who wrote the ticket. Missing the date on the ticket is what turns a disputable penalty into a bigger balance. We will not print a number of days here, because the document and the city page are the source.
If you hire someone to appear, confirm their licence with the Law Society of Ontario. This site does not list a paralegal until a real submission is approved, and a listing is not a licence.

Common questions
Can I dispute a parking ticket online?
Toronto publishes a screening and hearing path for many parking penalties on its tickets page. Follow that page. The deadline printed on your ticket controls.
Will a paralegal listing on this site take my case?
Not from this site. Confirm a licensee with the provincial regulator. This directory does not take a case.
