MCALPINE By-law 2011-138 Office Consolidation The Corporation of the City of Barrie Property Standards By-law APPENDIX “A” The Corporation of the City of Barrie Property Standards Committee RULES OF PROCEDURE To Govern the Proceedings of the City of Barrie Property Standards Committee BACKGROUND The City has had a property maintenance standards By-law since 1976. The By-law has continued to evolve and requires every property owner to maintain their property and buildings in good condition. To enforce the By-law, City Council has approved the hiring of staff to investigate complaints and to require substandard properties to be brought into compliance. In accordance with the Building Code Act, S. O. 1992, c. 23 a Property Standards Officer who finds

a contravention of the By-law can issue an order to the owner of the property and such other persons affected by it. An owner or occupant who has been served with an order and who is not satisfied with the terms or conditions of the order may appeal to the Property Standards Committee by sending a notice of appeal by registered mail to the secretary of the Committee within 14 days after being served the order. An order that is not appealed within the time referred to above shall be deemed to be confirmed. This document is intended to establish rules of procedure for the Property Standards Committee to carry out its duties.
