City guide
Montreal property standards règlement
Montreal publishes a règlement municipal. Without the accent, the spelling is reglement. The same rule is also written bylaw or by-law, and searched as "by law".

Montreal enforces occupancy and maintenance rules — salubrité, waste, and the condition of buildings — through bylaws you can retrieve on the city's search page. Inspectors issue notices that name the defects and the delay. The borough may be the office that attends, depending on the subject. The 311 agent is the person who routes it; the bylaw is the standard.
Owners answering a notice should follow the delay written on it and the appeal path written on it. A pest-control invoice is evidence of work, not a withdrawal of the notice.
Quebec listings in the directory carry a French description. The English text on this page is for readers outside that requirement. Use the French page if you are acting in Quebec.
