Ottawa's property standards by-law sets maintenance rules for buildings and yards: structural soundness, heating, pests, garbage, and vegetation. Related yard and encroachment rules sit beside it on the laws index. The city amends these. The HTML or PDF on ottawa.ca is the version that counts, in either official language.
Intake is 3-1-1. Inspectors issue orders when they confirm a breach. Owners who receive an order should read the appeal line on the order itself. Contractors who clear snow, cut grass, or treat pests can be hired to do the work; they do not cancel the order by sending the city an invoice.
The directory lists an Ottawa firm only after a real submission is approved.
